Google | Inside Abbey Road

For the first time ever, Google gave everyone in the world a chance to step inside the previously off-limits UK music studio. Visitors were able to interact with over eighty years worth of stories, innovation and music via their phone, desktop and virtual reality.

Lidar scanning each of the studios gave us a detailed model of the building.

This volumetric model enabled photos and videos to be placed in the exact position they were captured.

The experience had two modes. Free roam mode where everyone could navigate the different rooms of the studio through an interface similar to Google Indoor maps.

In Tour Mode guided tours of the studios are hosted by Giles Martin and Lauren Laverne who reveal the secrets of the studios.

3D scans of historic audio recording equipment gave everyone a chance to get up close to the innovations and equipment behind some of the most iconic music ever created.

In collaboration with NME music magazine 80,000 Google Cardboard viewers were distributed across the UK. VR installations gave everyone the feeling of stepping inside the music studios.

The site is currently under maintenance but to give you an idea of the full experience here is a walkthrough of some of the highlights from the site.
